An Unwanted Rescue {Adzeiryn X Prima}

Post  Prima Gellwulf on Fri Aug 07, 2015 4:06 pm

The shade of the trees was a welcome respite to her days in the training yard, the cool breeze that played through the leaves refreshing and smelling of the earth. Prima kept a steady pace along the forest path, sword rhythmically clinking against her armor as she walked. She pulled offer her helmet, held it loosely in her hand. Dark tresses came undone, tumbled down her shoulders. Much better, she thought. It was a mess to keep her hair tangled inside the snug helmet, and now that she was off the well traveled roads there was no need.

This was no pleasure stroll, despite how it looked. Prima was on a mission: find and escort a young man home. She took her duty seriously, and was focused on her task but for the somewhat often drifting of her mind. It was difficult to keep her thoughts straight ahead when there was no dire need – no ax or sword heading towards her, no flash of a notched arrow. The forest was serene and seemingly uninhabited. What did it matter if she spent some time gazing off into the depths of the shadowy trees, or watching the flight of birds overhead? As long as she was still moving forward, she was still working on fulfilling her mission.

Prima had been tasked with the responsibility of finding a young man who had left his home abruptly, as a worried message from his parents explained. He was likely still around his homeland of Silvanesti, and would require little effort in bringing home, as he was no warrior. Under normal circumstances requests such as this were overlooked by the order of knights, but Prima's captain had thought it a good trial for her to take on alone. The task was well suited to her. A little fresh air, a little taste of the world; she would come back refreshed and ready to follow orders, or so her superior hoped. Her captain knew she had an adventurous nature, knew keeping her in one place would only serve to dull her senses and cause her to stagnate. So here she was, making her way through the forest in search of her target, which she was only half certain she would recognize if and when she found him.

Adzeiryn. What an odd name. Elven, of course. They all had names Prima had trouble wrapping her tongue around. She hadn't met very many elves in her life, not yet at least. They seldom came to the strongholds in Solamnia where she trained, nor the miles of spread out townships where she lived. The few she had encountered had been messengers and dignitaries, sent for a purpose which they hastily accomplished, then left. All had been beautiful in a way she could only dream of being, ethereal and otherworldly in their grace. Her father had caught her gazing at one, once. A tall man, hair nearly as long as hers and silken gold. She had been lectured after that; she was to marry a knight, so she had best keep her eyes on them.

Remembering the incident, Prima scowled into the trees. She would look at all the elves she pleased, now.

That is, if she ever found any. The elf she was looking for was proving to be stubbornly absent. Four days into the woods around Silvanesti and she had come across no trace of Adzeiryn, nor any other elf. She wasn't a tracker though; she could very well have missed the signs. Her confidence that she could walk right in and stumble across the man was waning. Perhaps she should have better planned her task and asked around about him. Hindsight was clear, though, and there was nothing she could do about it now. She could only continue on her course, browsing the old roads through the forest in hopes of pure luck. It had always been on her side before.

It had been weeks that the elf had been on the road traveling. He had never been outside the city before, let alone reading a map before. He was starting to dislike this. He had a good map,due to his friend giving him a map, directions of how to get to The Tower of High Sorcery. He wanted to take the test. He wanted to be a wizard! A great mage, even if he didn't know many spells. Even though Kazm knew offensive spells, there wasn't much he could do.

Now he was sitting under a tree, stomach growling with a loud bubbling growl. He of course ate his food he had put out for the day. He didn't want to eat all the food he had bought for the road. It was a few day walk to the next town and he didn't want to eat all the food he had.
He also didn't want to use his food spell for the day. It was still very early, the sun still not very high in the sky. The heat said different though. He was sweating through his robes, his short hair sticking to his forehead.

His large ears seemed to twitch when he heard the approaching footsteps. He turned his head to see a knight walking his way. He smiled. A knight! They would surely help him! HE quickly stood up on his feet, staff tightly in his hand, other hand waving in the air.
"Hello! Knight ,hello! I need help!"He called out.

Today wasn't the day Prima ran out of luck, it seemed. As she rounded a corner she heard first the voice call out to her, saw second the man hastily standing from beneath a tree. It was easy to make out from even this distance he was an elf – the ears tended to be a dead give away.

Good, Prima thought. I found my first elf. Now she was getting somewhere.

She continued down the path, her pace quicker in order to reach the man. His tone didn't sound urgent, and indeed there was no threatening situation that Prima could see. Perhaps he was lost? If that was the case she wasn't confident she could be of much help – these woods were as foreign to her as any other lost traveler.

Only when she reached the elf did she realize that she may have just walked right into her target. “Good afternoon,” she smiled, polite as always. Behind her brown eyes her mind was racing, trying to recall the description giving of Adzeiryn down to the letter. Elf. Rather short. Somewhat on the rounder side. The man in front of her fit the description well, but it was too soon to be certain. It was best not to jump to conclusions, or at least that's what Prima's captain said when he scolded her.

She kept the smile plastered on her face, attempted to slow her excited heart. Take it slow, Prima.

“I'd be happy to help you.” Her voice was cheery, a sweet melody that gave no hint of the strength and deadly acts she was capable of. She had won many young knights over with her words and lips, only to best them in the training yard the next day.

“What's the matter?”

As she approached ,hope filled his entire being. He was glad the knight didn't turn away from him. Most seemed to ignore his presence or was to 'busy' to help the poor mage. He was glad this one was at least kind enough to approach him.

As she spoke he collapsed his hands over hers, shaking her hand to greet her.
"My name is Adzeiryn! It is nice to meet you!" He said with a charming tone. Even if he was on the heavy side he could easily charm someone if he wanted.
"I am glad you stopped to help! Almost every other knight ignores me! " He smiled brightly. "I was wondering if you have any food!?" His eyes light up at the idea of food. "I am very hungry and I have a long journey ahead of me!"

He kept his hands on hers, hoping she would give in and give him some food,or at least a nibble of something.

Prima was taken by surprise by the enthusiasm in which the elf took her hand and shook. She recovered quickly though, and answered with her own grin as he spoke.

Adzeiryn. She hadn't just been jumping to conclusions – this was man she was looking for. She had been strolling down the path and he had just been sitting there, like he was waiting for her. Prima didn't take the time to consider that her task was moving along so smoothly that certainly something had to go wrong soon. She only congratulated herself on a job well done.

“It's a pleasure to meet you,” she said, keeping the thrill out of her voice. “I'm Prima.” Adzeiyrn was still holding her hand, the warmth of his palm spreading to hers. He looked kind, his voice innocent and honest.

“Oh - yes, of course. Just let me-” Prima gently pulled her hand away and reached back into her bag of supplies. She had restocked only two days ago and was more than happy to lighten her load by sharing with the elf. It was an odd request though; most travelers out here knew how to ration their food wisely. She had to remind herself that Adzeiryn may not be used to traveling, that his absence from his home might very well be his first.

“Are you prepared for a long journey? It's still about two days travel to the next town, and if you've run out of food already you may need to reconsider your supplies next time you pick them up.”

After shuffling through her bag she pulled out some dried meat and cheese and handed it over to Adzeiryn. When he took it she moved slightly off the path and took a seat under the large tree nearby, resting her back against the trunk. She watched him eat, mind buzzing. It was now her duty to return him to his home, but how was she to approach the subject? It would be somewhat rude to give him the news roughly, to demand he come along with her. On the other hand it would be wrong to hide her intent from Adzeiryn. That went against the Measure, and Prima was not eager to act with so little integrity. For now she could chat with him, though. Perhaps she could find out more about him and why he had left his family, and then steer him towards the idea of returning home himself. After that she could tell him she had been sent to escort him there, and everyone would be content.

“May I ask where you're headed? It can be dangerous for a lone traveler in these parts.”

"It is a pleasure to meet you as well!" He replied suddenly after she spoke, even though he already introduced himself first. His eyes only brightened as she spoke of sharing. Even when she took her hand away,he held his hands together with delight. Adzeiryn didn't seem like the type to just up a run away. Though it wasn't exactly his idea.

"Prima! That is a lovely name! It is like a flower!" he exclaimed as she searched for her food. He then frowned.

"T-Two days!? T-The map says one day!" He then held his food with his teeth as he pulled up his map, pointing where the town was. The map he had looked old,the town he was pointing too had been gone for years. His eyes then moved to the food she brought out. He immediately dropped the map, snatching the food from her hand and began to chomp down on it. He acted like he hadn't eaten for days. He followed her and sat in the grass next to her, stuffing his face full of food,he was eating like a barbarian..or like a child.

He then gulped hard,so he could reply.

"I am going to The Tower of High Sorcery! I heard there was a test you had to take in order to be a full fledged mage! I am going to take it!" He smiled wide before taking another bite of his new food. "I hope it'll be fun!" It seemed the ..mage didn't even know anything about The Tower..or how these tests worked.

Prima watched the elf's expression change in rapid succession, from general delight to a slight panic and back to glee as he took the food from her hands. She reached down and picked up the map he had let flutter to the ground and studied it.

It was old – much older than any she had seen outside of dusty libraries. It read like an old story, telling of towns that would one day be lost to time or the ravages of war. Prima scrunched her brow, bit her bottom lip as she concentrated. She could place where they were on his map, and where he intended to go. He would have a hard time getting there though, as the town he indicated no longer existed.

“Where did you get that map? It's not very accurate.” Shuffling through her bag once more, Prima pulled out her own map and spread it out in front of them, avoiding the crumbs that Adzeiryn was leaving on the ground. “Look, that town isn't there anymore. Here we are,” she pointed to a spot on the map along a thin brown line, “and here's the nearest town. It's not even on your map.”

She looked away from the map and back to the elf, trying to determine if he understood what she meant. His map was useless; if he continued to use it he was almost guaranteed to get lost. Lost and with no food, or probably any way to find his way back, she thought, worry beginning to form in her mind.

When he told her where he was trying to reach the worry cemented itself, along with a sense of slight fear. “The Tower of High Sorcery? That's pretty far from here, you know. I wouldn't be too eager to be on my way if I were you.”

Her commander hadn't mentioned anything about the elf being a mage. A frown marred her face briefly before she caught it and replaced it with a more casual expression. Of course, it shouldn't matter too much that he was a mage, as long as he kept his magic to himself. Prima had grown up with all the prejudices against magic that the Solamnic order was only now beginning to set aside, and while she did her best to remain open minded the thought of magic still left her somewhat uneasy.

“I mean, I don't know much about how the mages run their tests, but I hardly think it would be fun. Dangerous and dark, more likely.” She had to repress a shiver, despite the warmth of the day. It was best not to imagine what the test Adzeiryn spoke of entailed.

“Are you sure this is what you want to do?” She turned to bring her eyes to his, holding contact until he answered.

As the knight got out her map,he leaned over ,watching her finger and listening to her words. Of course his crumbs still got onto the map,he wasn't going to stop eating for anyone. He leaned back and nodded, understanding her.

"Mhm I understand!" He gulped his food down. "I got it from a nice Kender! His name was Tasslehoff ! He traded me my map for one of his! Wasn't it so nice of them!" He still smiled with delight,he was glad to meet a someone new and even happier to make two new friends!

"Can you draw on the map where I need to go? I have to head out soon so I can get further before dark!" he swallowed another mouth full,he easily knew how to speak clearly even when his mouth was full. He mastered that by now.

"Why not be eager?"he frowned at her words,it made him uneasy on the inside. He then leaned forward, towards her.
"What! Magic isn't dark! It is fun and good!" He made an unsure face at her before speaking again.

"Of course why would you ask that!" His eyes locked with hers looking deep into them. Though it wasn't just him looking, something else was as well, that feeling would always linger next to Adzeiryn.

“I'm sorry, I don't actually know where the tower is exactly.” Prima handed the map back to Adzeiryn, glad for once she had not paid attention during lessons when they spoke of the mage's towers.

When Adziryn locked eyes with her Prima felt a moment of unease. Something was edging into the dark spots in the mind, something shadowy and slick and that she could not grasp. The look in the elf's eyes made her uncomfortable, perhaps, she thought, due to the magic running through his blood. She quickly looked away, gave a strained laugh and shrugged her shoulders.

“Just making sure. Regardless,” she turned back to him, but was careful not to keep eye contact too long in case the odd feeling resumed, “it will be a dangerous trip. I don't wish to be rude, of course, but you may not be prepared for it.”

Prime felt the prickle of a lie bubbling up inside her. She was trying to trick him without even realizing it. Telling him that he was not prepared might well prove true, but she couldn't be certain that he wasn't more suited to travel than he was letting on. If she continued to withhold the information about her purpose here then she would no longer be bordering on breaking the rules of the oath and measure, but fully in violation. She needed to tell the elf the truth.

“Listen, Adzeiryn. I can't hide this from you: it isn't chance I've found you.” She stood up then, began to pace before the elf as she spoke. Something felt wrong about telling him she was basically there to kidnap him. It didn't settle well in her heart. “Your parents want you to come back home. I've been tasked with taking you back there.” Stopping in front of Adzeiryn she looked down at him with a more gentle expression. “It'll be a lot safer than going to the tower.”

His smiled turned, his heart growing with sadness. Though he quickly made the smile once more.

"It's ok if you don't! I can find it! There are a lot of people around!" He smiled taking the map, stuffing it back into his bag. His eyes stayed on her as he ate,he was always told to make eye contact when speaking to someone. He watched her speak, his almost seeming to lower when she did.

A feeling inside him turned on it's side,he felt like he regret. Maybe what he did was wrong, maybe he should go home and stay in his room. No he couldn't! This was the only thing he had left,he couldn't go back to his room.

He irked seeing her stand so suddenly. His eyes watching her as she paced. Fear now settled in to the bottom of his guy,his face showed that same fear. His parents wanted him back? Why? To him it didn't make much sense but to someone else it did. He looked away from her ,his blue eyes staring at the ground.

"W-Why do they want me back? W-.."He paused, looking to the other side of himself, hands clenching tightly onto his food. "I don't have a choice. I am going to the tower..W-What will you do if I refuse to go with you.." His voice was shaky,he was obviously terrified of her now.

Prima watched as Adzieryn went from happily munching on his food to near terror. His blue eyes darted from her to the ground, now unable to keep contact. Her heart sank. She hadn't meant to frighten the young man. A terrified look in the eyes of her enemies, sure, that was something Prima would be proud and exulted to see, but this? He seemed like a nice enough person, and to know that she had caused the fear on his face was disheartening.

What was she to do? She couldn't very well knock him out and drag him back. In her haste to leave the fortress where she trained and strike out on her own Prima never once considered what she would do if the elf refused to come with her. Planning ahead was not something she was well versed with.

“I'm not going to hurt you. But I can't just let you go, you know?” She settled herself back on the ground next to Adzeiryn. What could she say to make him understand she had to do this? Something that would make him stop looking at her like she was a monster, and instead someone who was just trying to help. “Your parents must miss you if they have gone through the trouble of hiring the knights to find you. It would be the proper thing to let me take you home, and then maybe after you talk with your parents and prepare a bit more you can leave for the tower again, if that's what you are set on doing.”

He only seemed to shrink into himself as she got close to him. He still refused to even look in her direction, eyes looking in another direction, as if she was speaking to him from there. His fear grew worse when she spoke again. He knew what was to come if he went back. They didn't care,he knew that. They knew that. His expression seemed to calm, almost vacant. He turned to her, placing a hand onto her shoulder gently.

"Sorry to burst your bubble dear knight."He finally looked to her, eyes of those of someone else. That calm ,happy person now gone, instead there was an angry man. His gaze staring down into her, right into her soul, baring his teeth at what was inside of her. "But my parents don't give a shit about me."He then gripped her shoulder, slamming her against the tree next to them. His other hand quickly drew out the knife from the bag on his side. He rose his arm high above him, ready to strike down on her, ready to kill. He meant it to,this wasn't the happy go lucky man moments ago. This was a strong willed man,one who has seen and felt death around and with in him. A mean without fear.

Re: An Unwanted Rescue {Adzeiryn X Prima}

Post  Prima Gellwulf on Sat Aug 22, 2015 5:49 pm

A look of confusion crossed Prima's face as Adzeiryn placed a hand on her should and spoke to her in a voice unlike the one she had heard only moments before. When she looked at him she felt again that prick of fear, only this time it was steadily growing, a dark shadow invading her mind like an oncoming storm. Something wasn't right, and the first thing she could pin the blame on was magic.

She had time only to form the beginning of a question on her lips before he moved, faster than she expected, and slammed her into the tree.

Prima moved on instinct, her body reacting before her mind had time to even grasp what what happening. With one shoulder pinned to the tree she pivoted from the waist and brought the other to slam into the elf's body and throw him off balance. When his hand slipped from where it kept her pushed to the tree she tore herself away, not backing away but instead keeping close to Adzieryn and the dagger he still held. Her hand shot up and grasped his wrist, twisted it as hard as she could until the weapon fell from his hand and into the dirt below.

In a matter of seconds she had gained the advantage and was overpowering the less experienced and weaker man. Her muscles, used to the flow of battle, obeyed her commands like well trained soldiers; she used a leg to sweep the elf's feet from beneath him, used her momentum to drive him to the ground. With hardly a labored breath she had him subdued, and despite the fear she felt prickling the back of her neck at the thought of the magic coursing through his body, she kept her gaze on him steady.

“I still don't want to hurt you,” she said, honesty clear in her voice. Truth be told, she couldn't hurt him. She had vowed to take him back to his parents, alive, and if she harmed him her honor would mean nothing. Her whole life would crumble from the foundations she had built it upon. “Don't make this difficult. Please.”

The elf growled as she began to fight back. He honestly didn't expect..well was hoping she would be this experienced. His other hand, now free, grabbed her wrist as well, trying to pry her off. It was no use though. He eventually dropped and knife and was pushed back onto the ground behind him. He let out a groan, the wind getting knocked out of him for a moment. His eyes still furious glared at the knight.

"Well looks like we want to different things sweet heart."He growled back at her. The mage wasn't scared,he knew he could take her,if only he had his staff in hand. He began to wiggle under her grasp, trying to get free. "How about fuck you. We are not going back to that hell hole."
